Is Your Heart Stirred?

“Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.” Exodus 35:21
Recently I was listening to John Rinehart, author of Gospel Patron, address a group, reading from 2 Corinthians 9 and Paul’s recollection of the saints’ faithfulness in allowing their hearts to be stirred to provide for his needs. John used the example of making a cake from scratch, adding and mixing all the ingredients. In the stirring of the ingredients, you have the making of a cake -an outcome and reward.
John Rinehart’s message brought to mind my earlier reading of Exodus 35 and part of chapter 36. I felt myself being led by the Lord to read this account of the building of the tabernacle. As I read through the account, I was fascinated by the response of the Israelites to Moses’ words in verse 5 “’Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord…” The specific needs were identified by Moses, from precious metals, to skins, wood and specific stones.
As you read on, over and over one hears how the people responded not only with items needed, but their skills and talents to be a part of fashioning each aspect of the tabernacle. One can sense the excitement that must have permeated the camp as people became involved in the task. Their hearts were stirred to participate and engage in what God was doing. They had never seen what was to be constructed but there was an anticipation as they joined in the process.
As you read further, you discover the fullness of the response of the people. “’Let neither man or woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.’ And the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done indeed too much.” (Ch. 36:6-7)
As I watch from the sidelines in my role at the Canadian National Christian Foundation, I am watching the hearts of donors being stirred in this season. Many of our donor’s hearts are being moved by the Lord to give to various causes to see the Kingdom of God extended through a variety of charities, ministries and evangelistic outreaches across the globe. No longer being done at year’s end, people are engaging in partnering with others to see visions and mandates fulfilled. My heart is stirred watching what God is doing in the lives of our donors.
Given the current global economy, could this be a season or a window of opportunity that God is highlighting and stirring His people to be moved to sow into ministries and projects? Is this a time and hour where we need to be alert to what God is doing, seeing how He is advancing the Kingdom in so many places and ways, and partnering with Him in all that He is doing?
Is God stirring your heart in this hour and what are you doing about it?
